After a cold (30°F) but delightfully sunny day of racing in shifting NW wind, the Winter Series sailors, committee and patrol retired to the clubhouse for a delicious hot meal of meatballs and pasta prepared by our faithful Pramettes. The meal was followed by a cookie swap which provided everyone with a wide selection of home made cookies to be enjoyed over the holidays. See a few photos of the dinner, plus Win's photos of the sailing action. Next on the schedule is the special New Year's Day race at 12 noon.

Another Glorious Day of Winter Sailing Followed by a Fantastic Feast!

The race committee skillfully executed six races for the nine competitors on a sunny warm afternoon. Afterwards, our fabulous Pramettes, Melanie, Nancy & Suzanne, served up a delicious meal of sliders, pigs in a blanket, and numerous tasty accompaniments in celebration of the 54th anniversary of the Burger King Whopper.
Our faithful photo bug, Win, got some great shots of everyone both on and off the water, including the Burger Queen and King (left).

• Sailors and committee get up at dawn for the 8:00 am first race start.
• Sandi T. gives up the helm after 17 yrs of coordinating the popular "pram dinnners".
• Win Miller takes a record 255 photos of the racing.
It was a great day, in spite of the early start. The weather was warm and sunny and the wind was steady. Returning skippers Riley Kernan, PJ Brown, John Deitz, Rick Zimmerman, Sharon Bogatti and their crews were joined by newcomer Ed Flynn and his daughter Kelly for five races. Following the races, the new pram dinner coordinators, Suzanne Kernan, Melanie Flynn and Nancy Brown served up a delicious meal of sausage frittata, crumb cake, assorted bagles, pasta, spinich salad, OJ and bloody marys, continuing the 17 year tradition established by Sandi Thomson. more>>

(Click photo for full size image.)
Following the Fall Series sailboat racing on October 16th (read John Deitz's colorful notes), the sailors and their families took part in the annual Chili/Chowder Cook-Off. After everyone had tasted the delicious entries and cast their votes, Sue Deitz emerged as winner of chowder category and Carol Paterson and Stephen Wagner achieved a tie for best chili. All entries must have been deemed winners considering there was scarcely a spoonful left in any of the pots. Trophies were also awarded for top finishers in the first race of the day, The Chili/Chowder Bowl. Third place went to P.J. Brown, second Reily Kernan and first Tim Faranetta of LYC. Thanks to everyone who helped make the day such a success, both on and off the water. View Win Miller's photos of the racing in blustery west winds.

| October Kraft Beer Tasting Was A Blast!
Oh my goodness! The club looked so festive, decked out in pumpkins, mums, glittering candles, and colorful fall leaves. Nancy's idea to give MRYC pilsners to the guests was genius. The food was spectacular. Ron, Phil, and the kitchen crew outdid themselves. Thank you to Laurie for providing such delicious piggy delicacies! And who could be complain with 12 kinds of beer to sample! The hardworking staff made the evening go smoothly and kept everything neat and tidy. Thank you to everyone who gave their time and talent to the event. We pulled off another great affair! Such fun! Although I did not see it...my son said that earlier in the evening there was a rainbow...he may have just been pulling my leg...

Kudos to you! Food and everything was fabulous!! ...Nancy Kerr
Co-chairs Sharon Borgatti and Rick Zimmerman express their thanks to the committee:
Thank you so much for making this party such a success! We had a happy crowd of folks who really seemed to enjoy the opportunity to sample some new wines, eat their way through lots of food, and spend the evening chatting with friends. The club looked beautiful, the food was tasty, and Mother Nature provided us with a rainbow! A full moon for Rock the Dock and a rainbow for the Wine Tasting...obviously Mother Nature likes a good party! Again, please accept our gratitude for all the creative energy and work that went into making this party a success. Together, we make a very good team.

| 2011 Duck Boat Regatta, Aug. 26
Nine of our Jr Sailors traveled to Mantoloking YC Friday, Aug. 26th, to sail in the gala Duck Boat World Championship Regatta. This is always an exciting event, and this year was no exception. Even though racing was delayed in the morning due to lack of wind, and ended early because of the approaching hurricane, three good races were completed in 7-10 mph east winds before everyone returned to the club for a late lunch. Our top finisher was Sophie who took 6th place in the Junior Division. A total of 70 boats were on the starting line. Other members of the team were Casey, Pat K., Roddy, Evan S., George, Mark, Eric and Emily. OMG was it a windy day! We had a strong S/SE wind for our annual Filial Sail but it didn't keep anyone from going out on the water. We had 5 optis, 6 420's, and 2 lasers. Everyone was flying (when they weren't flipped over!!). It was a very exciting day and lots and lots of pictures to document all the parent involvement. Big thanks to Ryan, Eric and Tom keeping everyone safe. Also, very big thanks to all the adults: Dave K, John, Rick, Beth, Mary Jo, Ann Marie, Mike, Rod, Laura, Geoff, Jack. The burgees went to Casey and John for first in the 420s and Dan and Dave for second. Will and Alli took home the burgee for the Optis. Jean H. View pictures.
